A Dangerous Method

A confusing inconsistency of language (Swiss Jung and Austrian Freud share cut-glass English accents while Keira sports Russian; yet all, we are told, are speaking German) is just one of the many failures of a film that is both ludicrous and tedious; A Dangerous Method makes for a disappointing movie.

Claustrophobically set within one New York apartment, Polanski’s Carnage needles expertly at the veneers of middle-class civility via a grown-up confrontation between two couples that ought to know better. At first unbearably uncomfortable, it gradually and elegantly becomes uproariously funny. Rarely are we treated to such well-acted, sharply written comedy.
